What's On My Bedroom Table...

I'm displaying one of my sister's (Penny Volkofsky) tissue sculptures....

It's a christening gown made from'' hand block printed'' tissue paper...

And is part of a collection entitled ''singing''....

the ''dress'' represents a young child who passed away...

Penny went to a graveyard and looked at headstones
and noted the stories of various females buried there,
and made lots of different ''dresses'' to represent their lives.

This is detail of the printing...white on white.

It's about how we have our lives...
and here (on earth) we have the right clothing or ''shell''

The clothing represents something of what we leave behind...
it's a bit like the shell of the cicada...
it reminds you of a past life...but it's gone on and it's still singing.

We too leave behind something of a shell...
but go on and continue singing.
